A Handheld Pneumatic Rock Drill is a portable, air-powered tool used mainly in mining, construction, and quarrying to drill holes into rock, concrete, or other hard materials.
Here’s a simple breakdown:
"Handheld" means it's small enough for a person to hold and operate manually.
"Pneumatic" means it’s powered by compressed air (not electricity or gasoline).
"Rock Drill" means it's designed specifically for drilling into very hard surfaces like rock.
How it works:
Compressed air flows into the drill, driving an internal piston. The piston rapidly strikes the drill bit (kind of like a mini jackhammer motion), and the bit chips away at the rock. At the same time, the drill bit rotates slightly to help cut a round hole.
Typical uses:
Blasting holes in mining operations
Anchoring or bolt installation in tunnels
Breaking up rock for construction projects
Common types:
Jackleg drills (have a support leg to help hold the weight)
Sinker drills (heavier, used for deeper holes)
Pusher-leg drills (similar to jackleg but more advanced)
