1. Raw Material Selection
Broom fibers: Can be made from natural (e.g., broomcorn, palmyra, coconut fibers) or synthetic materials (e.g., polypropylene, PET).
Handles: Typically wood, metal (like aluminum), or plastic.
Dustpans (for sets): Usually molded plastic or lightweight metal.
2. Fiber Preparation
Natural fibers:
Cleaned, combed, and sorted by size and color.
Sometimes dyed or treated for durability.
Synthetic fibers:
Extruded through machines into long filaments.
Cut into the desired lengths and crimped (wavy texture improves sweeping ability).
Inserting fibers:
Fibers are gathered into small bunches and stitched, glued, or stapled onto a broom head base.
Some brooms have fibers inserted into drilled holes (especially for round or industrial brooms).
Trimming:
Once the fibers are attached, they are trimmed to the right length and shape (straight edge, angled cut, etc.).
4. Handle Preparation
Wooden handles:
Cut, sanded, and sometimes varnished or painted.
Metal/plastic handles:
Cut, coated (powder-coated for metals), or sometimes molded.
Plastic grips may be added for comfort.
5. Assembly
Joining head and handle:
Screwing (threaded handles)
Nailing or stapling
Gluing
In molded brooms, the handle can be molded directly into the broom head.
6. Dustpan Manufacturing (for broom sets)
Injection molding:
Plastic dustpans are created using injection molding machines.
Edges are trimmed and sometimes fitted with rubber lips for better sweeping.
7. Quality Control
Checking for:
Secure attachment of fibers and handles
Correct trimming
Balanced weight
Handle straightness
Durability and sweeping performance
