Installing aluminum windows requires precision to ensure proper fit, insulation, and waterproofing. Below are the key steps in the installation process:
Aluminum Window Installation Steps
1. Preparation
Measure Opening: Verify that the rough opening is square, level, and plumb. It should be slightly larger than the window frame (usually by 10–20mm).
Remove Obstructions: Clear debris, old sealant, and nails from the opening.
Install Flashing Tape (if applicable): Apply waterproof membrane around the sill to prevent water infiltration.
2. Frame Placement
Dry Fit the Window: Insert the window to check the fit and alignment.
Add Sealant: Apply a bead of silicone sealant around the perimeter of the opening (especially sill and sides).
Position the Frame: Insert the aluminum window frame into the opening from the exterior.
3. Fixing the Frame
Shim the Frame: Use plastic or wooden shims to center and level the window in the opening.
Secure the Frame: Screw the window frame into place through pre-drilled holes (usually in the side jambs).
Recheck for Level and Plumb: Ensure the window remains square after fixing.
4. Insulation and Sealing
Foam Insulation: Fill gaps around the frame with low-expansion polyurethane foam.
Seal Exterior Gaps: Apply weather-resistant caulk or sealant along the outer edges to prevent air and water leakage.
5. Interior Finishing
Install Interior Trim: Add any necessary trims or moldings to cover gaps.
Clean the Window: Remove protective films and clean glass and frame.
